This discussion about the deadbeat dads has got me wondering about the whole privacy issue.

Is privacy an inherent right, or is it a priviledge granted or withheld as society sees fit?

What does the Charter say about this?

"All government services must be available in sign language free of charge, according to a court ruling hailed by the deaf community for giving their languages de facto official status alongside English and French."

Whenever I see debates like the one in the previous post, I am reminded how complicated the law is around this issue. Even a lot of lawyers don't really understand it! I thought the following summary might be useful. I tried to be as "neutral" as I could--i.e. there's a lot about the law I could criticize, but I tried to leave that out.
